THE BLACK CLIP - The black clip, if providedl, supports only standard SOIC (8 pin) eeproms. It is the only connection option for in-circuit eeprom work when using a scanner or tablet eeprom adapter such as the Autel XP400 PRO. It is possible to have in-circuit reading and programming success with the clip. It is and can be, as many users experience, a frustrating ordeal. The design of the clip, while adequate, is not sufficiently precise to fully clutch the eeprom chip body. This flaw prevents the full engagement of the clip jaws which is necessary to firmly hold the clip in place. Since the clip jaws do not fully close around the body of the eeprom part, the clip contact fingers may or may not make a firm, positive connection to the eeprom pins. The result is that the user, after a failed read or program attempt, must manipulate (jiggle) the clip. This can cause the clip to "pep-off" of the eeprom which forces the user to reattach the clip to the part. This frustrating procedure can happen many times. Also, if a program (verification error) or read (screen of FF or 00) fails, the user must reinstruct the tool to again perform the operation with no guarantee of success.
THE UltraTouch Packages - Each UltraTouch package includes hand assembled, field proven, in-circuit connection options developed by Andromeda Research for real world applications. There are three packages from which to choose; basic, advanced and ultimate. The contents of each package is shown below. The black clip only allows connection to standard SOIC eeproms. Any other package type must be unsoldered and then soldered to an external mezanine board which is then installed in the tool eeprom adapter. Once the read or program procedure is complete the part is unsoldered from the mezanine board and resoldered to the original circuit assembly. The Ultimate UltraTouch package include the Precision Probe Set which allows connection to the tiny (TSSOP and MSOP) parts which means no unsoldering. The UltraTouch connection options attach to the UltraTouch base (included) this in tern is installed in the 16 pin ZIF socket which is standard on all tool eeprom adapters. This allows an UltraTouch package to work with any tool eeprom adapter or third party programmer. NOTE: Andromeda Research is not responsible if the specific tool eeprom adapter fails to read or program an eeprom in-circuit. Successful in-circuit work is the responsibility of the tool manufacturer and their product design.
