| EPROM+ Technology Family Adapters |
| The "+" in EPROM+ indicates that the programming system is capable of supporting technology families beyond standard memory parts. A "Technology Family" is a group of devices with a common function or common manufacturer. The PIC family of microcontrollers serves as an example. Using a single "snap-in" adapter, the APIC1216 (center), adds this large family of parts to the EPROM+ system. Technology family adapters perform the footprint conversion plus generate any voltages or special waveforms required by the technology family. Each adapter provides a solid, reliable solution to support devices which would otherwise require a much more costly programming unit. The photos below illustrate a cross section of adapter options. From DIP to TSOP, BIOS PLCC or SOIC, each adapter uses a high quality Zero Insertion Force (ZIF) socket and is constructed to the highest quality standards. Each adapter is designed to support as many members of a technology family as possible. Technology family adapters provide two important benefits: 1.You purchase support only for the devices your application requires. 2. The programming instrument does not need to be replaced every time a new device or technology family appears. |

Below is a list of the technology family adapters available for the EPROM+ system. Each listing includes the technology family supported, part number and cost. All adapters, although specific to the technology family, are similar in design and appearance to the above photos. Microcontroller adapters are listed first followed by memory technologies (serial eeproms, bipolar proms, etc.). NOTE: Technology family adapters are not compatible with third party programmers.

| IN-CIRCUIT
SERIAL EEPROM ADAPTER Part #ASERSM1 - $59.00 This
adapter is specifically designed to address the difficult
requirement of in-circuit reading and programming of
serial eeprom parts. The adapter supports all 8 pin

and probes are not included and must be purchased
separately). This allows you to choose a complete
connection solution for your application. The adapter
also includes a voltage selection switch (See photo).
This switch allows you to select the voltage (Low Voltage
or 5 volts) supplied to the eeprom in-circuit. In
applications where the eeprom is difficult to read or
program due to interference from other parts or a
microcontroller, simply set the switch to LV to disable
the interfering components. Serial eeproms supported
include families such as the 93XX (MicroWire), 24XX (I2C

BIOS FIRMWARE HUB and 32 PIN PLCC adapter - PART# APLCC32HB - $99.00 The APLCC32HB adapter adds support for the two common PLCC technology families used for personal computer BIOS parts. Initially, the computer BIOS (Basic Input Output System) functions were always programmed into standard memory devices. This is no longer true. As the computer industry has moved toward removing more and more components from the motherboard, connecting a standard memory part to the motherboard bus required additional components beyond just the BIOS chip. To address this, Intel, and later other companies, created a 32 pin PLCC device which included more than just the memory necessary to contain the BIOS code. These parts are known as FIRMWARE HUBs. Although they contain the BIOS code, the pin connections do not conform to the industry standard for memory devices. Therefore these parts are used primarily on personal computer motherboards. Andromeda Research addresses these components with the APLCC32HB adapter. This adapter incorporates a two piece top assembly which is removed and rotated by the user to accomodate the two different device families; FIRMWARE HUBs and standard 32 pin PLCC memory parts. When used with 32 pin PLCC devices, the adapter supports both 5 volt and 3 volt devices. This single adapter offers a cost effective solution which addresses all standard FIRMWARE HUB devices plus all 32 pin PLCC memory parts typically found on computer motherboards. select for on-line purchase |

| Andromeda Research offers several PLCC package to DIP base adapters. These allow you to mate a device in a PLCC package to the DIP socket on the EPROM+ programming unit. The term "PLCC" is short for "P"lastic "L"eaded "C"hip "C"arrier. This is a package type with leads on all four sides. The leads exit from the package edge and then wrap around the base in the form of a "J". A 32 pin device has nine pins and seven pins on opposite sides. 44 pin devices have eleven pins on each side. Pin 1 is normally identified by a small dimple on one edge of the package. PLCC devices are used in applications where product size requires a small package. | ![]() |
| Universal
28 and 32 pin PLCC
to DIP adapter - PART# APLCC3228 - $89.00 EPROM and other memory devices, which are traditionally manufactured in 28 pin DIP packages, depart from a consistent pin translation when the silicon chip is placed into a PLCC package. Since there are very few actual 28 pin PLCC devices, semiconductor companies place a memory chip which would normally be found in a 28 pin DIP package into the more common 32 pin PLCC. The photo on the right shows a 27C512 in a 28 pin DIP package with a corresponding 27C512 in a 32 pin PLCC package. This results in four unused pins on a 32 pin PLCC package which contains a 28 pin device. Since the pins of a 32 pin DIP device map directly to the corresponding pins of a 32 pin PLCC package the 28 pin part cannot be supported in with a standard 32 pin PLCC to 32 pin DIP adapter. Addressing this problem normally requires two separate adapters; one for the 28 pin DIP parts and another for the 32 pin devices. Andromeda Research addresses the problem with a single solution; the APLCC3228 adapter. This adapter incorporates a two piece top assembly which is removed and rotated by the user to accomodate the two different device package types. The adapter also includes low voltage translation circuitry which is activated by a small slide switch. This permits support of not only standard (5 volt) devices but low voltage (3 volt) devices as well. This single adapter offers a cost effective solution which addresses all standard PLCC memory parts. select for on-line purchase |

CANON BOOT ROM / CANON FLASH ROM ADAPTERS
Andromeda Research offers two adapters
to address different Canon boot and flash roms. (Please
note that the term "BOOT ROM" refers to the
function of the part in the copy machine while the term
"FLASH ROM" refers to the technology of the
actual memory part. Both terms can be used
interchangeably and reference the same Canon copier
parts.) The latest Canon copy machines use low voltage
flash roms. Typical part numbers are 29LV400, 29W400,
29LV800, 29W800, 29LV160, 29W160, 29LV320 and 29W320.
Earlier generations of Canon copy machines use 5 volt, 8
bit flash roms. Typical part numbers are 29F040, 29F080
and 29F016. Note that the part numbers listed are core
part numbers and do not include any prefixes or suffixes
which may be appended to the actual number printed on the
chip. Examples of the two different part families are
shown below.
|
| The ACDM72A adapter is
specifically designed to support the flash roms found in
many Canon copiers including the Image Runner line. This
adapter supports all members of the low voltage flash rom
family including the 4, 8, 16 and 32 meg parts. This
adapter, when used with the EPROM+ system, allows you to
copy the contents of one flash rom to another, restore a
corrupt flash rom or save the contents of any flash rom
to a disk file. You may use one flash rom in place of
another by simply copying the information. By transfering
the original data from one part to another, you will
create an exact duplicate. No longer must you purchase
factory new parts as you can now reuse existing flash
roms or clone replacements. Each ACDM72A adapter includes
an addendum with step by step
instructions. Part #ACDM72A - $279.00 select for on-line purchase |

the low voltage flash rom group including the 4, 8 and 16
meg parts. This adapter, when used with the EPROM+
system, allows you to copy the contents of one flash rom
to another, restore a corrupt flash rom or save the
